LARGE-SCALE AGARWOOD CULTIVATION COMPETITION ON AILANTHUS TREES

The large-scale agarwood cultivation competition on Ailanthus trees took place at Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thu's Ailanthus garden in Tan An Hamlet, Phuoc Tan Commune, Xuyen Moc District, Ba Ria Vung Tau Province on August 31, 2023.

Six units participated in the agarwood cultivation competition, employing various methods involving microbial fermentation, each with their own experience. The purpose of the competition, organized by the Vietnamese Agarwood Association, was to select the most effective microbial fermentation method for producing high-quality agarwood with a pleasant aroma and beautiful resin. The chosen method will be certified and promoted to encourage local residents to cultivate Ailanthus trees.

Each organization was tested on 5 Ailanthus trees, aged 8 and 3 years old, and samples of microbial fermentation products were taken for analysis. Despite the rain, the agarwood cultivation session was conducted enthusiastically and highly successful. The participants exchanged knowledge and learned from each other. Each method of microbial fermentation had its advantages and different drilling techniques.

However, it is important to follow the proper procedure. Avoid drilling directly into the center of the Ailanthus tree to prevent tree damage. Additionally, maintain a distance of 40cm or 60cm between drilling holes. The size of the holes, approximately 5cm, is sufficient for inserting the tube to deliver the microbial fermentation product.

Various agarwood cultivation methods on Ailanthus trees were experimented with, including:

The liquid solution method, which involves drip-feeding the tree through small drilling holes.

The method utilizing a cylinder inserted into the tree trunk.

The method using a suction tube to deliver the microbial fermentation product to the wound.

The method employing a spray bottle inserted into the drilling hole.

The evaluation and verification of the agarwood cultivation methods will be conducted by the Vietnamese Agarwood Association over a period of 18 months to 3 years. The association will select the method that meets the specified requirements.

AgarwoodCo participated and learned to find the most optimal method. Despite some limitations, which may cause damage to the Ailanthus trees, AgarwoodCo has received promising news from the organizing committee about a new method that does not require drilling or the use of microbial fermentation. This method is based on the selection of appropriate seedlings and specific care techniques during the early stages of growth. The experimental results are expected to be announced and shared by AgarwoodCo in the near future, encouraging collaboration to achieve high-quality results, particularly in reducing costs for Ailanthus tree cultivation and eliminating the risk of tree damage as currently experienced. This method ensures completely natural and clean products for consumers' well-being.
